The KZ Lodge Program

The KZ Lodge Program at Hammarskjold High School

This highschool program's main goal is to provide added support to Indigenous youth by providing a soft landing that helps ease their transition into a mainstream secondary school setting.

Students gain valuable hands-on skills, while also discovering what it takes to pursue different careers in related job sectors. Students often work towards Green Technology Curriculum, which aims to connect students to Forestry & Natural Resources, Horticulture, Agriculture and more. The KZ Lodge also exposes students to different green industries that exist in Thunder Bay and communities throughout the Northwest Region.

Some topics include:

  • Building traditional Snowshoes with elders
  • Building canoe paddles
  • Wild Rice Harvesting
  • Butchering/skinning wild game
  • Medicine wheel gardening
  • Teepee Lodge building
  • Parks Ontario Trips and Education
  • Forest Firefighting Training
  • MNR education
  • Tree Planting
